DEEP CLEANING SEATS wITH FABRIC & ALCANTARA
- Not suede: Alcantara is a synthetic microfiber, not a type of leather.
- Durability: Unlike suede, it’s more resilient and suitable for long-term automotive use.
- Cleaning concerns:
- It is not delicate in terms of cleaners, but you must be gentle with agitation.
- Over-scrubbing can damage fibers.
- Dirty Alcantara can look like “wear” (shiny, matted patches), but it’s usually just dirt clumping fibers together.
Quick check:
Rub the pile side-to-side with your finger:
- If it moves freely → fibers are clean.
- If stuck together → dirt buildup.
- Cleaner: Multistar (diluted 1:20 with water).
- Water extraction machine (e.g., Kärcher wet vac).
- Agitation tools:
- Upholstery & leather brush (soft bristles).
- Interior Sponge Duo (nylon fiber side for Alcantara, sponge side for fabric).
- Vacuum cleaner (for final step once dry).
- Lay seat flat (if possible) for easier access.
- Dilute Multistar 1:20.
- Fill extraction machine with clean water only (no cleaner).
Step 1: Apply Cleaner
- Lightly spray diluted Multistar onto both the Alcantara and fabric areas.
- Avoid oversaturating, just an even mist.
Step 2: Agitation
- Fabric (short pile center): Use the upholstery brush or sponge.
- Alcantara (outer panels):
- Use the Interior Sponge Duo with light pressure.
- Nylon fibers reach deep without damaging the pile.
- Work gently until you see dirt lifting (fabric may appear orange/brown when agitated).
Step 3: Dwell Time
Allow cleaner to sit for 1–2 minutes to loosen dirt.
Step 4: Extraction
- Use the wet vac:
- Spray clean water onto the seat.
- Immediately extract with suction.
- Repeat until all cleaner and dirt are flushed out.
- Apply enough water to rinse thoroughly but rely on suction to leave the seat nearly dry.
- Remember: Alcantara is safe to wet vac (it’s microfiber, not suede).
- Once dry, vacuum the seat to fluff up fibers.
- Lightly brush Alcantara to restore uniform pile.
- For stains: use “Prepare” solvent sparingly, even safe on Alcantara.
- Allow seats to fully dry before use (ventilate car, leave windows open if possible).
- More vibrant fabric color.
- Alcantara no longer appears “worn” or shiny.
- Fibers should move freely under light touch.
- Seats look sharp, uniform, and refreshed.
Key Reminder: Alcantara ≠ suede. Treat it as a microfiber fabric: safe with water, safe with cleaners, just be gentle with agitation.
